Note: Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
When I’m not reading, or even when I am meant to be reading, you can invariably find me snooping on Goodreads or sighing wistfully at online book retailers, searching out for my next preorder. Narrowing my wishlist for the rest of 2017 down to just 10 (ahem, plus two) was entirely too challenging – but perhaps it will be good training for an exercise in self-restraint when the books do come out (haha, who am I kidding).
Want by Cindy Pon: Cindy Pon wrote Silver Phoenix and Serpentine, two Asian fantasy abundant with intriguing folklore and mouth-watering food description. It’s a no-brainer that I’ll be all over Want, her first foray into science fiction. The beautiful cover by illustrated by Jason Chan also demands to be displayed face out on my bookshelf.
The Tiger’s Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera: One female Qorin warrior, one divine empress, a shared prophecy, a star-crossed love that will conquer demons, a blurb promising ‘even gods can be slain…’ – I am shook, OK, I needed this book in my life the moment I found out about its existence. It’s also blurbed by Victoria Schwab, Roshani Chokshi, and Seanan McGuire, my hype meter is through the roof.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng: Everything I Never Told You was an exquisite heartbreak. I was utterly captivated by Celeste Ng’s writing style, especially the way she conveys emotional weight in the most mundane of actions. I absolutely cannot wait to see what she brings to the table with this new release.
Forest of A Thousand Lanterns by Julie Dao: A peasant girl who dreams of becoming Empress, seduced by darkness with sorcery fuelled by blood and freshly harvested hearts? It sounds wickedly delightful, and I can’t wait to add Xifeng to my short but much-loved list of anti-heroines.
Rebel Seoul by Axie Oh: From the moment I saw the aesthetic for this novel, featuring a crowned Lee Jong Suk, I knew it was a book I had to read. Axie Oh also mentioned that Rebel Seoul was inspired by Gaksital and Shut Up Flower Boy Band, two of my favourite k-drama. I cannot wait to read this!
The Black Tides of Heaven by JY Yang: I admit, this is 110% cover lust, Yuko Shimizu created a matching cover set for this duology and it is so beautiful I want the prints plastered all over my apartment. Separated twin siblings Mokoya and Akeha find themselves on opposing sides of a war between the Machinists and the Tensors.
The Stone Sky by N. K. Jemisin: The finale to The Broken Earth trilogy, one of the most beautifully written, visionary, and powerful fantasy series I have had the pleasure to read. While I don’t want it to end, I also cannot wait for this book!
Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore: When The Moon Was Ours was one of my favourite reads of 2016, and I am salivating at the thought of Anna-Marie’s next book. Her proses are always a delight for the senses, the imageries in her books are haunting and palpable. Magical realism is my favourite genre, and Anna-Marie is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. I cannot wait!
Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi: Because have you seen that cover?! A Persian inspired fantasy about a girl who washes dead bodies for a living. It sounds dark and twisted and beautiful, which is all I can ever ask for in a book.
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo: This one is on everyone’s list this week, and why wouldn’t it be? It’s Leigh Bardugo, back in the Grishaverse, and working with one of my favourite things in the world of languages: fairy tales.
Warcross by Marie Lu: I love Marie Lu, I like video games, and I adore the idea of a hacker heroine with hair of rainbow. I have such high hopes for Warcross and the early reviews trickling in are filled with praises, I can’t wait to read it for myself.
Where The Star Rises anthology: Twenty-three SFF authors explore impossible science and wondrous magic throughout Asia. If there was ever an anthology written for me, it would be this one. Gimme!!
I love these Top Ten Tuesdays because they expand my wishlist so much! Please link me to yours and let me know if any of the books from my list pique your curiousity ❤
OMG, wow, all of these sounds SO good. I just added, like, five books I hadn’t heard of to my TBR. I’m especially excited for WHICHWOOD, because Mafi’s writing is just to dieeeee for! ❤

EPIC list Aentee! I’ve been keeping an eye on these myself as well, so much diversity rolling out & I’m loving every minute of it. The cover to Want most definitely deserves to be displayed on your shelves <3! I really need to start reading N.K. Jemisins fantasy series, I met her last year & got the 1st book signed *for shame* lol this is a reminder for me to get on it 😉

Thank you for sticking The Tiger’s Daughter on my radar. That book sounds all kinds of epic. A lot of these books could easily become a cover love buy haha. Want has been popping up on my radar a lot recently and it’s definitely an intriguing concept. I’ve not read a Marie Lu book yet but Warcross sounds like a whole lot of fun. 😀

This is such a great list! I’m never updated to new releases, so I always get surprised when I read these posts, because I end up figuring out a great load of books I didn’t even know were being released, hahah. The one I’m for sure including in my TBR is Tahereh Mafi’s, Whichwood. The premise is so unique! I also have to mention another one of my most anticipated releases for 2017, which is the 3rd book in the Magnus Chase series. It’s getting releases two days before my birthday, so I think I already have a birthday present to ask for! Once again, great list, Aentee!

Okay, now I NEED to boost my TBR. Cindy Pon is literally the Hayao Miyazaki of fiction, it seems, and I’m living. I have Forest of A Thousand Lanterns already on my wishlist, so I’m trying to refrain from obvious displays of excitement, but now I def need to have Celeste’s read.
