My life isn’t entirely books, I’ll have you believe. Watching TV is also another much favoured method of procrastination around these parts. Thank you so much Tasha of The Bookie Monster for nominating me!
THE RULES
I. Create five Book-TV Pairings.
II. Tag your favourite book bloggers/booktuber.
If You’ve Read: The Demon’s Lexicon Trilogy by Sarah Rees Brennan
You Should Watch: Supernatural
Why: Both have scary demons, brothers who would go through hell and back for one another, and super hot dudes. The Demon’s Lexicon also has the perks of having some awesome ladies! Who *gasp* doesn’t die. I love you though Supernatural, mainly you, Dean *swoons*
If You’ve Read: Ancillary Justice
You Should Watch: Sense8
Why? The appeal of Sense8 is its diverse cast with multiple nationalities, sexualities, gender identities, all being presented. Ancillary Justice has a protagonist who do not differentiate genders, everyone in the book is referred to as ‘her’ irrespective of common gender indetifiers. Sense8 tells of clusters of 8 humans who can coinhabit one another’s minds and ability. The protagonist of Ancillary Justice has lived through as many as a thousand lives!
DISCLAIMER THOUGH: I HAVE NOT FINISHED READING ANCILLARY JUSTICE YET.
If You’ve Read: The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
You Should Watch: Avatar: The Last Airbender + The Legend of Korra
Why: Mistborn has allomancy and ferromancy, allowing specific ‘burners’ to do crazy shit with different metals. Tin enhances senses, Steel pushes, Iron Pulls, Pewter Strengthens etc… Only the Mistborn have the ability to burn all the metals. Likewise, there are Firebenders, Waterbenders, Earthbenders, Airbenders in the world of ATLA – but only the Avatar can wield all four elements. Loads of fun, loads of action, and I freaking adore both to the end of the Earth!!
You Should Watch: Gattaca
Why: Both are about the underdog beating the system and surpassing those who claim genetic superiority. I love these themes whether in written or cinematic form and have a deep admiration for both Red Rising and Gattaca! The scene where the protagonists ‘upgrade’ themselves and cheat the system is especially reminiscent.
If You’ve Read: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
You Should Watch: Once Upon A Time
Why: OK THIS IS A COP OUT, ‘cos everyone would have read/watched these series. Both are fairy tale retellings that mixes several different stories. Both are inordinately addictive and totally marathon worthy.
That was way harder than I thought it would be. I will not be so cruel as to choose an unsuspecting soul to tag, I nominate these twitter volunteers:
- Mishma of Chasing Faerytales
- CW of Read, Think, Ponder
- J. M. Cabral of Book Freak Revelation
- Joey of Thoughts and Afterthoughts (OK So you didn’t volunteer, but you are totes a TV man!)
- Chelsea at Book For Thoughts
- Curiosity Killed the Cat
- Glaiza of Paper Wanderer (Anime and Book pairings pls ;))
- Carlisa of Confessions of Carlisa
- Skylee of The Night Girl
- Everyone who wants to do it, please feel free! I would love to know your book/movie/tv recs 😀
That’s a cool tag! 😀
Although, I’m not sure I can think of any movies or tv series for some of the books I’ve read. 😀

Grimm is also a great TV show for fairytales! It’s a bit more dark compared to Once Upon a Time but I love it! Also thanks for taking on the tag – I loved your answers 🙂

Thank you so much for tagging me Tasha this was heaps of fun 😀 I need to check out Grimm! Darker spin are definitely my thing, thanks for the rec!

What a great tag! Cinder and Once Upon a Time do go extraordinarily well, I must say. Although I’m ashamed to admit those are the only two I’ve read/watched out of your list O_O

How are you BFF with Cait and have not yet touched Supernatural? YOU MUST WATCH IT 😀 And this tag is glorious fun! Give it a try ❤

The Demon’s Lexicon sounds like my kind of book. I loved Ancillary Justice and Gattaca. I was mesmerised by the first episode sense8, so I need to finish watching it. Avatar & The Legend of Korra are my favourites too. Can you believe that I have never watched an episode of Once? I’m afraid to go down the rabbit hole. Excellent list! A book + anime pairing list would be fantastic too 😉

I think you’ll approve? The first book breaks down the dark, brooding hero archetype by showing us dark brooding bad boys are sometimes just plain bad news?
Omggg Sense8 gets so much better, that cast is so cute! ATLA and Korra are so beautiful! Once has a really good first season but derails and I don’t like what it implies about child adoption but otherwise it’s sweet!
LET ME TAG YOU SO YOU CAN DO THIS ANIME AND BOOK THING.

I’ve heard that Brennan is quite good at confronting certain YA tropes but I wasn’t sure which ones til now! Thanks for the heads up on Once too – I really have to watch it for Mulan. *Starts drafting anime and book tag.*

This seems like such a hard tag! I could never do it. I really need to watch more TV…

NURUL!!!! *squishes you* I’ve missed you!!! Do you want to do the tag??? And ooo I missed it but will check it out when I get up tomorrow! You must read Mistborn it is most awesome!

I missed you too!!! (like talking to you since all these time I just silently read your updates via my email submissions in class oops don’t tell my lecturer XD) I’d love to do the tag but I think I’ll have a harder time than you since my TV stuff is so limited (movies on the other hand…) *aggresively adds mistborn into exploding tbr list*
I’d appreciate that very well! It’s not bookish, since the blogs that tagged me are lifestyle/fashion but I always liked telling people about awesome blogs like yours so I was like, screw it I’m mentioning you XD XD XD
Rest well x (will comment on older posts when I have time hehe)

This is such an awesome tag! I feel like it would be SO HARD to come up with some, though. I might tag myself if I can come up with some :P. Oh my gosh, Aentee, Once Upon a Time is my life. The Lunar Chronicles is the perfect pairing. And what is this Gattaca?! This sounds like something I would become obsessed with quickly. I’ve also been wanting to read Red Rising for so long now. PS I think this is my favourite graphic you have created.

Gattaca is an awesome movie questioning eugenics and omg watch itttt! This tag was so fun, you sure you don’t wanna do it Sarah? And eee I am happy you like the graphics 😀 Mostly freepik’s resources work though so I can’t claim credit XD

This such a fun idea, and you did a great job!! Also I clearly need to watch Sense8, because I am obsessed with Ancillary Justice!

Great tag idea 🙂 I keep forgetting that I need to watch Supernatural! I started the first few episodes a while ago but guess I can’t be bothered atm lol. I used to watch OUAT, the first two seasons were really good and addictive! But season 3 for me, was a miss. I plan on reading the Mistborn trilogy sometime soon (love that cover!)
LikeLike
Supernatural is such great fun BUT keep in mind female representation is not great in it. Great mythology and bromance though. And I agree, the first two season was definitely the highlight of OUAT. I have not watched in a while. Mistborn is amazingggggg, do it soon!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Aw thats a shame. Guess it is more focused on Sam and Dean. I’ve given up on OUAT. I started a bit on season 4 but got bored very quickly and I didn’t like the way things ended on season 3 (with Regina). I’m currently watching Pretty Little Liars, the mystery aspect intrigues me and its kind of addictive! I’ll get to reading Mistborn soooon, got so much to read XD

I had a total crush on Sam Winchester up until when he started drinking demon blood, I think. But now that I’m watching Gilmore Girls for the first time, his name is DEAN and it’s really confusing and he’s also very young in that show.
I think Cinder and Once Upon a Time are a perfect pairing! Nice job. 🙂

I had a crush on Sam until his hairline started receding XD *horrible person* I didn’t know he was in Gilmore Girls! I have to check it out now haha.

Great tag, Aentee! I love your picks! And oooohh, Dean. *drools* Ehh, what was I saying? Oh, yes, I need to watch Sense 8. I was actually recommended that show by one of my favourite authors, so I’m excited to watch it. Plus diversity!!

Sense8 is amazing, one of my favourite shows this year. A lot of people found it slow, but I loved all the characters and the concept so much. Also the diversity is so refreshing and wonderful to see 😀

Cinder and Once Upon a Time are the perfect pairing! I still need to watch Ancillary Justice and read Sense8. Sense8 sounds like something I would really enjoy but I just haven’t gotten around to it because I was more in the mood for a tv comedy.

Sense8 is surprisingly funny at times, you should definitely try it. It’s a good mix of mystery, scifi, romance, comedy and PLAIN GREATNESS. The cast of characters are so cute omg. Plus diversity, yay!

This is a fantastic tag! I’m a dedicated book reader, I don’t watch movies or TV often but I have Netflix so this is really helpful for me to find new shows to watch – because currently my on screen life is fixated on Gossip Girl. I had to watch Gattaca for school and I loved it! It was really cool and an interesting movie!

How is Netflix Aus? I have flirted with the idea of getting it but I heard there’s not a lot of shows on there so I am holding back! Watch Sense8 you won’t regret it! And Gattaca is such an awesome movie, I watched it during a sleepover in high school and I have been in love since.
LikeLiked by 1 person
It is pretty limited compared to the US Netflix, unfortunately. But there are some good shows on there despite it!
The ending of Gattaca was very emotional!

I’ve been hearing so much about Sense8 and I really want to check it out! Even some of the criticisms of the show seem like something I would actually enjoy 😀
LikeLiked by 1 person
I think a lot of the criticism is on the slowness of the plot and how things aren’t explained explicitly. I actually like the pacing as it allows character development. As for the mechanics of the mental connection, there’s always the second season for it! Give it a shot 😀

I really need to try some of these shows. I’ve tried Once Upon A Time, and it just seems so silly to me. Maybe I need to give it another chance though. I keep hearing so many good things about Sense8, I better head over to Netflix. Supernatural has soooo many seasons, I fear I’ll never catch up xD Awesome post!!

If you didn’t like the silliness it will not get better haha, I think you might like Grimm better if you’re looking at a fairy tale spin off type show 🙂 And yessss watch Sense8!

I read through the whole post with the only idea being, “PLEASE, ON THE OFF CHANCE THAT I ACTUALLY MAY GET TAGGED, PLEASE LET IT NOT BE THIS TAG,” because honestly, I would be the absolute worst person to tag. I’m not a TV person. The most I ever watch is the occasional K-Drama or anime. Outside of that? Nothing. Like I think my friend said she was watching House of Cards and I thought it was a movie or something.
But I do think that the first book you mentioned sounds really cool!

This is such a great tag!! 🙂 I love Mistborn so I think I might have to check out The Last Airbender and Korra. I have not seen either of them but I love anime. Sword Art Online is my favorite! 🙂 I need to read Red Rising and I love Gattaca! So now it seems like this is a sign that I need to read it!

Awesome tag Aentee! I actually watched Gattaca last year so now I’d definitely be interested in reading Red Rising – especially since I’ve heard great things about it. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Woah I haven’t heard of Gattaca before but now I really want to watch it for your description and because Red Rising is one of my favourite books! Supernatural is definitely one of my favourites and Sense 8 I really enjoyed, I didn’t know there was a book that could be similar to it. Awesome recs Aentee! ❤

Okay so clearly I need to see Gattaca! 😀 I LOVE RED RISING. I actually don’t watch a lot of TV though?! My life honestly is 90% reading. hehe. OKAY AND BLOGGING. But whenever I sit down for a 2+ hour movie I’m like but I could be reading right now and then end up wandering off to do something else. BAH BUT I WANT TO READ THE DEMON’S LEXICON BECAUSE YOU PAIRED IT WITH SUPERNATURAL WHICH IS THE EXCEPTION TO MY “WOULD RATHER BE READING” RULE BECAUSE I FREAKING LOVE SUPERNATURAL.

This is such a clever post, Aentee! I just finished watching Sense8 and I absolutely loved it, although the appeal for me was the characters rather than the admittedly thin plot. Ancillary Justice has been on my TBR for ages but it’s definitely been pushed up now. 🙂 Cinder/OUAT is a perfect pairing, too.

Yes I love sense8 mainly for it’s very adorable and heartwarming cast of characters! I hope the plot will be fleshed out in the next season. But yay it got renewed! Ancillary Justice is so refreshing and unique 😀 enjoy!!!
